This is a tumblelog, kinda like a blog but with short-form, mixed-media posts with stuff I like. Scroll down a bit to start reading, or a bit more to read more about me.
That’s driftwood.
Bigger than a single-story house. It washed ashore near Washington state’s Olympic National Park, where this photo was taken. The tree most likely fell into a river after flooding and floated out to sea. High tides and strong wind then pushed it back on shore.
V35K18 Residence by Pasel.Kuenzel Architects, in Leiden, Netherlands.
With its traditional materials and modest construction the V35K18 could be just one of the houses in Leiden, but the interesting parts are the thoughtfully located windows with their large size (contrast to the house’s relative smallness) and the fence, that connects to the house in an unusual way.
Beautiful, simple and open.
Museum of Energy, by Arquitecturia, in Terragona, spain.
They really got it with this one. The exterior and interior totally match the function, but the building is still super simple and monumental. Totally love it!
Himeji Observatory House (private house) by KINO architects, in Himeji Hyogo, Japan.
The house’s facade emphasizes safety and rationality, but douse it in form of art.
Minimal with a twist not too big to destroy balance but not too small to make it boring. just right. It would be even nicer to see just a little splash of color, like on a doorknob or the intercom.
